PARTICIPATE

The symposium will examine the Bhopal gas tragedy and its impacts form multidisciplinary perspectives. Bhopal2011 invites researchers and practitioners in the process of preservation, conservation, revitalization or transformation of modern heritage, sites of memory and conflict and environmentally sensitive landscapes to present a paper or a poster.

Papers are invited for the following (but not limited to) themes and proposals for organizing sessions are welcome.
  • Commemoration & the Politics of Construction of Public Memory
  • Public Participation in Revitalization of Sites of Memory
  • Challenges in Rehabilitating Landscapes of Disaster
  • Protection, Preservation and Interpretation of Sites of Conscience
  • Heritage, environment and economy - Conflicts and Resolutions
  • Gaps in the World Heritage list. Industrial & Modern Heritage of Asia, Africa and Latin America
Submit a 300 word abstracts along with a brief CV of the author, all in English as well as any poster proposals before December 01, 2010. The last date of submission of abstracts is November 15, 2010.

COSTS

Bhopal is readily accessible by air or train from New Delhi or Mumbai. There are several good hotels at reasonable prices available in Bhopal. The organising committee will come back with specific suggestions by mid-November. Efforts are also made to arrange simple accommodation for students and other participants - free of charge. Payment of fees will be due on November 15. Later payment will entail a surcharge of EUR 50 or USD 65.

The registration fees for the workshop (23 January - 04 February 2011) will include site visit transportation, day excursions to Sanchi and Bhimbetka, lunch, opening and closing ceremony dinners and stationary cost.

The registration fees for the symposium only (02 to 04 February 2011) will include daily lunch, tea and opening and closing ceremony dinners.
